My name is Erin Socha and I am a non-traditional student at the University of Kansas studying journalism and mathematics.
I returned to school in 2020 shortly before my 40th birthday after almost 20 years in the wine industry. I am interested in data journalism, science communication, and investigative reporting. You can find my examples of my work in the Kansas Reflector and Eater Magazine.
I grew up in Virginia and spent my adult life in North Carolina, where I met my wife. We moved to Kansas in 2019 when my wife took a position in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department at KU. Since then, we, and our assortment of rescue dogs, have been happy to call the prairie our home.
We enjoy cooking, travel, gardening and playing ice hockey with the Kansas City Women’s Hockey League.
We currently have three dogs: Pete, Ruby, and Billie.
