Ellen Mason
Exploring creative paths in Strategic Communications and Film & Media Studies
About Me
I am a senior at The University of Kansas, majoring in Journalism with a focus on Strategic Communications and Film & Media Studies. My experiences include working on public relations and strategic communications campaigns, contributing in development, public relations, research, and analytics. I thrive in researching PR campaigns, uncovering meaningful data to guide strategy.
My passion for teamwork stems from competitive sports. I played varsity tennis at St. Teresa’s Academy and am a current member of KU’s travel tennis team. These experiences have shaped my collaboration and problem-solving skills, which I look forward to bringing into a PR and Advertising career.
Experience
May 2022 – July 2022 (3 months), Prairie Village, KS
Developed lesson plans, led high school prep programs, supervised matches for Junior Team Tennis, and taught fundamental skills to beginners of all ages, as well as coached high-performance players. This role sharpened my coaching, customer service, and event planning abilities.
Current, Kansas City, MO
This year, I had the opportunity to coach the Saint Teresa’s Academy tennis team. Leading a team of 40 players, I specialized in coaching varsity athletes, implementing structured practices, organizing events, and fostering a positive and supportive environment. I communicated closely with players and parents, ensuring everyone felt encouraged and motivated. I’m proud to say that three of my players reached the State Championship for the first time in their high school careers.
